Emmerdale reminds us of Graham and Jai’s explosive past

Yesterday in Emmerdale, a few more residents were treated (if you can call it that) to seeing Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) in the flesh following his resurrection.

Of course, gossip about Graham being back from the dead has spread quickly around the village, but the mysterious character would much rather stay in the shadows than make a big announcement down Main Street that he successfully tricked everyone into thinking he had been killed.

But with Graham hoping to call Emmerdale his home once more (questionable if you ask us), it meant facing even more people who couldn’t believe he was back.

Outside the café, Jimmy King (Nick Miles) was stunned to see Graham again. Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) then arrived and tried to confront Graham about him destroying his relationship with Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) back in the day.

Graham was quick to shut Jai up, which amused Jimmy a lot.

If you’re new to the show, or you didn’t watch it in 2020, you’re no doubt wondering what happened between Jai and Graham.

Fear not! Here’s everything you need to know.

Graham’s explosive past with Jai explained

Shortly after Graham’s apparent murder, a whodunnit storyline began. This was very similar what we’ve just seen with Ray Walters’ (Joe Absolom) murder, where a number of episodes aired that focused on the perspectives of prime suspects in the investigation.

One person who had reason to want Graham dead back in 2020 was Jai.

In an instalment that focused on what the duo were involved in before Graham’s ‘death’, we discovered that he was the reason Jai’s relationship with Laurel fell apart.

After taking some cocaine, Jai was forced to swerve in his car to avoid hitting Graham. This led to the two men arguing, and Graham eventually discovered drugs in Jai’s car. He pocketed them and the keys when Jai wasn’t looking, and headed back to the village.

When he got back, Jai lied to Laurel and claimed that the accident was Graham’s fault. She believed her partner, and confronted Graham. He gave Laurel the drugs he found in Jai’s car, and explained what really happened.

A while later, Jai was confronted by Laurel, who wanted him to admit to the drug use but when he refused, she ended things with him.

Why has Graham returned to Emmerdale?

Graham initially returned to Emmerdale at the start of January because he had discovered April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) was in danger of Ray and Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths).

He had plans to kill Ray, but they went out the window as he was nearly caught by Joe Tate (Ned Porteous). Graham then got into his van with Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) in the back, leading to his involvement in Corriedale.

A few days later, Graham headed back to the village to see Joe and Kim Tate (Claire King).
