Emmerdale confirms April’s fate on ITVX – after worrying exit fears

Emmerdale spoilers follow from Thursday’s episode (12 February), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1. The following article contains discussion of sexual misconduct.

Emmerdale ties up two loose ends from April Windsor’s dark storyline tonight – as her fate is revealed following weeks of uncertainty. The troubled teen has been living in fear of serious legal consequences after confessing to crimes she committed while being coerced by Ray Walters and Celia Daniels.

April was honest with the police at the start of the year, bravely recalling the upsetting details of how Ray and Celia had exploited her and Dylan Penders for their own gain. At the time, the police were unable to confirm whether April and Dylan would face charges – leading to fears that they could be sent to young offenders institutions.

In tonight’s episode, DS Walsh arrives to see April and shares two important updates on the police work that’s been happening behind the scenes.

First up, Walsh confirms that vile predator Callum Swift is being brought to justice. Callum was involved in a harrowing episode last year, as he tried to force himself on April when she was being sexually exploited by Ray, who was setting her up with sleazy “clients”.

“We’ve now charged Mr Swift with a string of offences,” Walsh reveals. “It was a long time coming, but we got there in the end. Word is he’s pleading guilty.”

On April’s current situation, she adds: “Ray Walters’ murder case is ongoing, but you are not a suspect of any crime relating to drugs or Callum Swift.

“The police and CPS accept that you were the victim. Because of your statements, yours and Dylan’s, regarding the other criminals and the people they were controlling, we’ve been able to locate girls being kept in a flat in Leeds.

“We’re arresting a number of men right now for drug trafficking and sexual assault.”

Walsh’s updates pave the way for a special episode tomorrow, focusing entirely on April, Dylan and Bear Wolf.

As all three characters wonder how they’ll ever move on from their ordeals with Ray and Celia, a traumatised April confides in her stepmum Rhona Goskirk about how she feels she still deserves to be punished for dealing drugs.

Can Rhona help April see that she was the victim?
