5 Emmerdale spoilers as Cain nears breaking point, Bear is charged and Joe is blindsided

Over the last few weeks, Emmerdale has been bursting with drama after a double murder charge, a villain’s demise and of course the epic Corriedale crossover.
During recent episodes, Cain Dingle was devastated after he was given a diagnosis for prostate cancer. He eventually made a tearful confession to Sarah Sugden after realising he couldn’t tell Moira who is currently wrongfully imprisoned for the deaths of Celia Daniels and Anya.
Elsewhere in the village, Robert and Tracy battled over John Sugden’s ashes before Aaron found them both in a toilet cubicle as Tracy prepared to throw them down the toilet for justice on behalf of murdered ex-husband Nate Robinson.
Bear is charged…
During his police interview, Bear confesses to DS Walsh that he killed Ray. Walsh gently questions a confused Bear, who struggles to recall details about Ray’s death but insists that he was alone and that it was an accident. Marlon rushes into the station to comfort Paddy, who blames himself for the situation. Back in the interview room, DS Walsh pressures Bear about his slip of the tongue, but he insists that he acted alone. An agitated Bear insists he was the only one involved in Ray’s death.
When Walsh changes the subject to Moira, she’s intrigued to hear that Cain pressured Bear to tell the Police that he never saw Moira at Celia’s farm. Now back home, Paddy’s inconsolable and breaks down, fearing that he, Bear and Dylan will end up in prison. Marlon urges him to hold onto the hope that Bear’s actions will be recognised as self-defence and he will be released.
Paddy panics…
The next day, a confused Bear is questioned about his contradictory statements, Paddy repeatedly interrupts to support Bear’s story, leading DS Walsh to suggest Paddy might be involved with the murder. Paddy begins to panic when DS Walsh is unable to believe that Bear moved Ray’s body alone.
After Paddy updates Mandy, Marlon and Rhona on Bear’s police interviews, he begins to spiral when DC Chen arrives and requests that both he and Dylan are interviewed at the station in the morning.
Bear is charged with manslaughter and Bear’s solicitor tries to reassure Paddy, reminding him that Bear acted in self defence. Paddy is left encouraged to think Bear might get bail. However, when they try to encourage him to think strategically about his plea trial, fragile Bear’s determined to plead guilty and do the ‘honourable thing’.
Cain nears breaking point…
Liam informs Cain that Bear has confessed to killing Ray, giving Cain hope that this news could help prove Moira’s innocence. Whilst visiting Moira, just as he’s about to tell Moira about his diagnosis, an unexpected scuffle between prisoners interrupts them. Thrown off, Cain decides against sharing his bad news and instead tells Moira about Bear’s confession, desperately hoping it will lead to her freedom.
Moira can see he’s clutching at straws but agrees that it’s more hope than they had before. However the next day, Moira’s frustrated to hear that Cain put pressure on Bear and that his confession didn’t even help her case. Moira, noticing Cain’s stress, urges him to share whatever is bothering him but Cain’s resolute in keeping his secret. Cain returns home and is angry to find Joe on his sofa. He tries to grab Joe by the collar but Matty breaks up the fight and reveals he let Joe in.
Matty urges Cain to stop fighting everyone and instead support his wife, leaving Cain near breaking point. Returning to Home Farm Joe assures Kim that Butlers will soon be theirs. Overcome with guilt, Ruby confesses to Cain that she was the one who called the police about Anya’s body, leaving Cain blindsided.
Cain is livid after Ruby’s confession, and accuses Caleb and Ruby of throwing Moira under the bus by involving the police. He concludes Caleb’s offer of a lawyer for Moira must have been out of guilt and furiously orders them to leave. Sarah urges Cain to stop pushing away those who are trying to help him, but will he listen to his granddaughter?
