Angry Coronation Street fans work out ‘obvious solution’ as soap is pulled over sport

Coronation Street fans think they have worked out the “obvious solution” after the soap was pulled from tonight’s schedules, along with Emmerdale, to make way for the sport. The two ITV soaps were reduced from six episodes a week to five at the beginning of this year amid the broadcaster’s budget cuts, and now viewers have lost out on even more.
With a crossover special known as Corriedale in early January, the two long-running programmes launched into a new scheduling format marketed as the ‘soap power hour,’ with Emmerdale airing for half an hour each weeknight at 8pm, and then Coronation Street following immediately after. Howvever, this week, on Tuesday, Arsenal vs Chelsea EFL Live will be on screen instead, and on Thursday, a Six Nations match between France and Ireland will take over the slots.
One fan wrote on Reddit: “We’re losing more and more Corrie thanks to the football. Why can’t they just put a double bill on the night before? That seems to be the most obvious solution to me.
“This new soap power hour schedule was clearly devised because of the ITV budget cuts, so aren’t we losing enough? Don’t think we ever had to sacrifice this much in the days that it was two on a Monday, one on a Wednesday and two on a Friday.” In response, another fan said: “Never understand why they don’t put the football on ITV4!”
