Coronation Street casts Emmerdale star as Shona’s dad is introduced

Coronation Street fans are soon set to meet Shona Platt’s (Julia Goulding) dad, and he will be a familiar face to 90s soap fans.

Shona’s family has suddenly expanded in the ITV soap, and not just because of the birth of daughter Harper.

Last month, Shona’s estranged sister Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) reappeared in her life after they were both caught up in the Corriedale pile-up.

While Shona was in the minibus that crashed on the way back from Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) and Ronnie Bailey’s (Vinta Morgan) wedding, Jodie was tied up in the back of Emmerdale villain Graham Foster’s (Andrew Scarborough) van.

They were both taken to the same hospital afterwards, and after watching from a distance for several days, Jodie finally made her presence known to Shona.

Now, Jodie is living with the Platts, and it is clear that she hasn’t been 100% honest about what has been going on in her life.

She has lied to Shona about having escaped an abusive relationship, and warned Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), who found her at the crash site, not to tell Shona what had happened.

However, Shona starts to grow suspicious of her sister next week, and decides to follow her to a psychiatric hospital.

It is there that Jodie tearfully introduces their confused, estranged father and reveals that she had been left to care for him after her mother left.

Their father is set to be played by none other than Steve Evets, who hardcore soap fans will recognise as Emmerdale’s Tom Shepherd.

Tom appeared in several episodes across 1998 and 1999 during a storyline that saw Kathy Glover left for dead after being mowed down during a dramatic robbery.

To help him overcome this, he receives some life coaching from the famously philosophical Eric Cantona.

As the security guard on duty at the time, Tom took to the stand in court where Steve Marchant and Kim Tate (Claire King) were on trial for the theft of Orsino the horse.

The role of Tom in the ITV soap came early on in actor Steve Evet’s career, and he has since been involved in some major projects, including a role in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

He has also made appearances in countless TV series, including Shameless, Vera, Death in Paradise and Gentleman Jack

Most recently, the actor has been a prominent face in comedy series Brassic as Jim, starring alongside fellow Emmerdale alumni Joe Gilgun and Coronation Street legend Michelle Keegan.

Steve will make his Coronation Street debut on Monday, February 9, officially putting to bed rumours and speculation from fans that Emmerdale’s Graham could be Shona and Jodie’s father.

The gang decide to throw a festival on Jim's farm by stealing some event supplies from a sleazy beer-fest organizer called Stefan Styles. Using Erin as a decoy, the heist ends in mayhem and the lads narrowly avoid the police and escape with the gear while Erin scarpers. On her way home, Erin accepts a lift from Jake's brother, Aaron but things quickly take a sinister turn and further disaster looms as Vinnie's Dad goes missing from rehab.
